Samsung N230 vs N210

NetbookReviews.net recently covered the new N230 netbook, giving it a glowing reference: Up until now the Samsung N210 has been my favorite and highest recommended netbook, but this position has now been replaced by the Samsung N230. However a follow up article might prove more useful for those confused about just what to buy! What’s the difference between the N210 and N230? Samsung have not done a great job of simplifying their range with an increasingly confusing naming convention ̵...

How To Service Your Netbook’s Fan

A forum member dropped by recently to ask for advise on a noisy fan on their Samsung NC10 netbook.  And thanks to a handy tip he was able to sort out his problem. Service Your Netbook Fan There were two DIY suggestions put forward in the forum: Get hold of a compressed air cleaning can suitable for electronics.  A short burst of air might help clean things up. A quick spray of WD40 on the fan bearings sorted out our forum poster. If you decide to open up your netbook to get better access then...

ASUS close to releasing updated 12 inch UL series thin-and-lights

We’ve been wondering for some time when ASUS would finally update their popular UL series of thin-and-light notebooks with the latest Intel Core 2010 processors. Well it looks like the updates are FINALLY rolling out (albeit slowly) starting first with the 12 inch UL series. According to Electronista, two new models are coming out replacing the UL20A system – a model featuring the 1.2 GHz Core i3 processor (known as the UL20FT), and a model featuring a 1.06GHz Celeron U3400 processor (which i...

Samsung N230 to Provide 13hrs+ of Battery life

One of the joys of mobile computing on a netbook is the long battery life.  When I bought my NC10 I was rather impressed with the 4-5 hours that it gave me but now it seems that the newest model on the block  is going to offer a whole lot more. N230 Battery Power The N230 will be available with a 66Wh battery that comes with a 13.8 hour battery life claim.  Of course real world computing might not reflect this but rest assured this is a competition beating run time! This new model might not hav...

Samsung N230 – The Official Photos

Hardly a month goes by without a new netbook from Samsung, which is just as well as it gives me an excuse to get blogging! Here we can share some of the first publicity shots of the new Samsung N220 that have come our way. Although the new model is disappointingly similar to previous models, I have to say that I think it is one of the smartest looking netbooks to date. Engadget have dished out enough cynism over these pictures already so I won’t add any further comment. Note: we do not r...

Broadcom HD card in the Second PCIE slot on an NC10

A recent bump of an older forum post made me realise that I hadn’t blogged this netbook mod tip from forum member ankan. Adding a Broadcom HD decoder card to the Samsung NC10 is not a new experience, we first highlighted this late last year. However the first attempts at this were at the expense of the NC10′s existing WiFi card.  Not ideal for many modders as they quite like to use the Internet from time to time!  Later, another forum member discovered how to add a second slot, but ...

Intel Introduce the Atom N550

We are used to large technology leaps and bounds each year and if, like me, you have been using computers since the 1980s you might be wondering why netbook chips have not seen any real innovation since they hit the market a couple of years ago. Photo Credit Intel Atom N550 Well at last we might be seeing the first new Atom chip for a while that will actually provide us with an increase in performance. Unfortunately it is not a massive break through, however the N550 is a genuine dual core pro...
